Putting Green

Prestwick is one of the oldest golf clubs in the world and stakes claim as the original host to the British Open in 1860. The course was only 12 holes back then, but was later stretched to 18 by Old Tom Morris. Today, the Open has moved next door to Royal Troon when it’s in this neck of Ayrshire, but Prestwick still demands utmost respect from first-time guests, as it features narrow fairways and rugged dunes creating many blind shots.

One of the great links courses in Scotland, the Old Course is a challenging test of golfing ability. With the wind to contend with, and deep rough interspersed with gorse and broom, accurate shot making is essential. Players should make their scores on the outward nine, as the prevailing north-westerly wind can make the back nine extremely difficult.

Home of four Open Championships, the legendary Ailsa course has hosted some of the most iconic names in golf. Reborn in June 2016 at the hands of renowned architect, Martin Ebert, the transformation makes the Ailsa the number one ranked golf course in the UK & Ireland. Set alongside the glorious Ayrshire coastline, with Arran and Ailsa Craig as a stunning backdrop, it is one of the finest golfing destinations in the world.

Musselburgh Links, The Old Golf Course, an original 'Open Championship' venue, hosting the competition on six occasions between 1874 and 1889. Documentary evidence proves that golf was played on Musselburgh Links as early as 2 March 1672 although Mary, Queen of Scots reputedly played here in 1567.”

Authenticating the record is the documentary evidence found in the Account Book of Sir John Foulis of Ravelston.

The club’s first beginnings were in Leith in 1744 and later moved to Musselburgh and finally in 1891 to Muirfield in East Lothian. Muirfield is a renowned host to major championships amateur and professional, international and national, men and ladies – all of which have produced worthy champions of whom more later. Eleven Amateur Championships have been played over the course and 16 Open Championships.

Warm-up swing room, driving nets & putting green

The Championship Course has hosted eight Open Championships, one Women’s British Open and two Seniors Open making it one of the very few to have done so in the UK. It is one of three courses used for the annual Dunhill Links, the others being Kingsbarns and the Old Course in St Andrews.

“Carnoustie is the toughest course anywhere.” – Gary Player

Practice range ½ mile from the course

The oldest ‘new’ course in the world, the second course at the Home of Golf was built by the Keeper of the Green, Tom Morris in 1895 and it was imaginatively named to differentiate from its famous neighbor. Boasting undulating fairways and challenging greens, the New Course is a classic test of links golf.

Practice range ½ mile from the course

The oldest and most iconic golf course in the world. The Swilcan Bridge and Hell Bunker are recognized across the globe, yet the greatest feature of the Old Course is that despite its grand status it remains a public golf course, open to all.

“I fell in love with it the first day I played it. There's just no other golf course that is even remotely close”
- Jack Nicklaus, Open Champion 1970, 1978
